Show Notes
We have been talking a lot about goals. Goal setting, goals sticking and how to actually trust yourself in the last few episodes. So what happens when you set these goals and suddenly you get the wobbles? You are going from panic and now you need to be making progress. You need to make sure that you are moving along. You have done all the right things. You have worked out what you want to do. You have scheduled the mini diary and you are starting to trust yourself. You are being accountable, but you are getting the wobbles. So what do you do then? The first thing you need to do is stop and take a breath.
It is normal. We set these amazing goals and sometimes we set them as a bit of a stretch and we got up.
You Are Growing
All those little voices in our head suddenly come to the forefront, don’t they? They go, oh, who do you think you are? You are too big for your britches. You can’t possibly do that. And it starts to trigger but that is okay.
And that is part of setting goals and that is part of growing. Because as we know, adornments are not made by just rumbling a few stones. It’s the pressure that quite often makes the things and the coaches often it’s self imposed pressure isn’t it?
We laid things to the last minute, and then suddenly we need to do them and it’s a little bit like that with our goal setting as well.
When we calm and thinking and Sunday afternoon and we are doing our strategies and we are going, “yes, this is great. And then on Monday morning, when we sit down to actually have to do what you need to do, you are like “Oh my God, what have I done? So it’s just a case of taking a breath. It is normal. You are normal. Everything is going to be okay.
Overcome Imposter Syndrome
Now, there’s quite a few episodes on the podcast and Small Business Talk for Coaches about imposter syndrome. There was one, quite a while back. It was SBT Episode 023: How Imposter Syndrome Could Be Holding Your Business Back with Katrina Alilovic.
You can also check several episodes that talk about imposter syndrome.

But what are we doing that? So the first thing we’ve got to do is look for the positives. Because otherwise our brain will find evidence for the negative. It is probably going to be hard. But sitting there saying it’s going to be hard. That’s not going to help is it?
It’s a bit like on those days that you are not feeling 100% and you get up, you put your shoes on and you go outside and you take that walk anyway. Or you front up and you are 100% there for the clients, and then afterwards you go, oh.
So you can do it. You really can. And walking around saying it’s hard is not going to help. So what are we going to do about it?
Price It Right
Making money is essential for running a business. Yes, we all like to do it, do the right thing and do the pro business and all of that. But the more money you make the more of that sort of stuff you can do. The more you can give to charity, the more you can help people.
So setting your price and being comfortable with it, it’s definitely going to help with your goals. And once you have sold it at that price a few times, then even consider moving it up. Because if you are thinking you need to have 20 clients to make that 100,000, well, maybe you can now have 15 clients to make that hundred thousand.
And remember you have got the runs on the board. You know how to do this. Even when your brain is giving you the wobbles and telling you that you can’t.
Be Kind To Yourself
When your brain is giving you wobbles, what should you do instead of getting panic? Be kind to yourself. You have got this. I know what I’m saying a lot today, but you really do have this and start looking at the goals in a smaller thing.
So instead of saying I need 20 clients, what about I need two clients this month? I need to make five calls. I need to send out five emails, brought them down into micro steps. The things that you can do, the things that you can commit to and do those things first whenever possible.
Before is that scrolling on Facebook? Before you check? Start checking your emails and limit your email checking. It’s not essential unless you are running some sort of customer service business. So just be kind to yourself. Do the emails. Maybe after you have done your first things, maybe at lunchtime and then maybe later in the day, and that’s all you need. Every encountered a situation when that urgent thing left for an hour or two can be solved by the person that was sending it? And if not, then you can be there to help and pick up the pieces. And if it is really urgent, they will find it at the way to get to you.
Do Time Blocking
Make sure that you are honoring yourself and protecting that time and time blocking that really does help. Batching things can be a really good way to do that as well, so that you are not mind switching all the time. Going from all the different tasks. Set your tasks up, and I’ve done quite a few podcasts on that as well.
Capacity definitely builds momentum. So once you start doing a few of these things and backing yourself, then you will find you’ve probably feel better about it as well. And on those days you don’t, that’s okay. Go to bed, have a good night’s sleep and start again tomorrow. Make sure that you are not scrolling on your phone just before you go to sleep. You are not checking that last email, and then your mind is not being able to shut off because “I’ve got to deal with that first.” So set up those good routines particularly around sleep in ABC World.
Let Them Know About You
Remember, being the best kept secret is not going to work. Yes, there are so many coaches out there but you are the coach for your people so go out and let them know. Yes, I know it sounds repetitive. You think you have told them a hundred times that. You will be amazed at how often people say, oh, I didn’t know you did that. Or it’s just that perfect time where they have made the decision and they need to speak to somebody, and then you pop up in their emails. And emails is such a good way to keep track.
So make sure that you do have a solid data base. You are growing your data base and you are segmenting and using your emails because that can make life so much easier. So remember that often the sign is in the follow up.
Simplify Your Plans
The best thing to do at this time of year is set that simple plan. Do your steps one at a time. Don’t get overwhelmed. And be realistic about what you can do. It’s better to set something slightly smaller towards that bigger goal. And then if you get that done this week, then add on. At this time of year, it can be really overwhelming when there’s so many other things going.
So just do the things that you can actually do, and then have that extra little bit on your to do list. These are the three things I need to do today. And these are the two others that I’d like to do if I’ve got time. But make sure that that doesn’t become a procrastination thing. Today I’ve done my three things. Yeah, I can run away and not do anything.
So if you are doing your three things just fine, you can easily put your fourth one on and then your fifth one but not too many different competing priorities because you might get overwhelm with it.

From Panic to Progress
So think about how you can look after yourself really, really well. And if you need a hand, you know where to find me. And you do not have to do it all by yourself. So having a coach, having a mentor and having people that you can verbalise things to can be really, really important because our brains can sometimes play a trick on us by saying its data but really, its just drama and we should know how to take it out to have an amazing day.
