Show Notes
Do you have what it takes to create a thriving and successful coaching business? Of course, you do or you would not be doing it. And you actually know how. Spoiler alert, you do know how. It is just hidden behind those sneaky little thoughts. Those thoughts of where do we find clients?
How do I build my audience? Am I really going to be able to charge for this? Will people pay? All those sneaky little thoughts that sound quite innocent. But that is what your brain does, does it not? It goes into that territory and goes, oh no, stop, too scary. And that is what we do as coaches. We help our clients to uncover those sneaky little thoughts that are holding them back.
Fall Forward
Well, as you know, when you started walking, you did it wrong a lot of times. When you started to ride a bike, you did it wrong a lot of times. Most things that we are now very successful at, we did wrong a lot of times but as adults, we get that fear and our brains just go into overwhelm and stop us from doing what we need to do.
So start with a hypothesis. Start with your best guess. Where do you think you might? What is it that you can do? Now, the worst thing to do of course is to get on the internet and check out all those shiny objects. And even now you have got chat and all the rest of it. And that can help to refine your thoughts.
But do not get lost there. Do not spend days and weeks and months researching every possible thing so you end up even more overwhelmed because you do not know which strategy or tactic to do. Just pick one and go for it. And if it works, amplify it. Amazing. If it does not, well, you know what? That is okay. Go back to that list that you created and have another go.
Fail and Learn
Sometimes it is not that it is never going to work. It is just one of the elements was not quite right. It might have been because we have got a lot of public holidays here in Australia at the moment. It could be seasonal. There are many reasons why things do not work. And it does not mean that it is not going to work forever but you have to believe that it is going to work. You have to put your whole effort in, put as much as you can in it and give it a really good red hot go as I say, and then see how it goes.
And if it does not, then modify. Put it back on the list for maybe some time later. Maybe it was video that you tried and you did not quite have that confidence. So maybe you could just do some little short reels or just go live once a week and build that confidence up before you go and try doing that all over again.
Fail fast and learn from your failures. That is how we learned to walk and do all the other big things that we do. So make sure that you are moving forward.
Stop Self Doubt
You need to believe in yourself, that it is possible for you. Check out some of my limiting belief podcasts or just stop that negative self-talk right now. There is a really good one by Nan McEwan and she talks about negative self-talk. Check the episode here, SBT Episode 237: How to Manage Then Remove Your Negative Beliefs With Anne McKeown
Sometimes we can stop ourselves by uncertainty, by procrastination, by not doing it, by half-heartedly doing it. Always think about giving yourself the best opportunity, not the worst. Did you go to one networking event and you hid in the corner and you did not talk to anybody? Well maybe next time you talk to one person or maybe take a buddy if that is the way you do it. Or maybe you went with somebody and you and they just sat in the corner. Maybe you do not take a buddy next time. So there are lots of different hypotheses that you can try. Give yourself a little bit of a spreadsheet of what you have tried, what is working, how you got that client.
How You Show Up Matters
Think about how you are presenting yourself and telling people. Lots of people have had interactions with others in the supermarket or coffee shop and then suddenly boom, client out of nowhere. Well, it was not quite out of nowhere, but that is what it feels like.
You already probably know what you are doing that is not working. So think about those sorts of things and keeping a spreadsheet is a great way to do it. So when you do get a client, and you will, it might take a little while if you are not consistent and you are not out there, but get those runs on the board, get the confidence up. Would it not be wonderful if you did not quite get your spiel right to nine people, but your tenth person thought you were amazing because you had gone out and talked to nine people beforehand? Or it might take you thirty people, but you need to have the confidence.
People would look for that person that is confident, that is talking about your pain points and all of that sort of thing.
The Power of What If
Sometimes it is just about reframing. Here is a little exercise for you. It is called the power of what if. What if you did know? When my clients say I do not know, you cannot move on from that, can you? But what if you did know? What is your best guess?
We have been talking about hypotheses. What is that hypothesis? I might find a client at a networking event. I might get online and go to a big networking event where they have breakout rooms and I can talk to a lot of people. Okay, that is potentially one way you could do it. So jump online, have a look, see what you can research. What if?
Instead of going with I do not know, stop that little thought. It sounds innocent, but we know it is not. See what comes up for you. Are you going oh I could not possibly do that? Just park that for a second. Reframe it.
