Have you ever been overcome with nervous when making a decision and thought yeah but what if I could?

Own Worst Enemy

We are often our own worst enemy and stop ourselves from being really brilliant for no real logical reason.

Our primitive brains are trying to keep us safe, however they end up protecting us when there is not a real danger. We stop ourselves doing so many things because we haven’t done them before or don’t know the exact how.

What if we never tried to walk because we didn’t know how or had never done it before.

Sometimes you just have to try and dust yourself off when you fall.

Separated From the Tribe

Being separated from the tribe, isolated is another fear of our primitive brain. If you leave the herd, you would be eaten. Not anymore but we still worry about fitting in and what others will think. 

You hear noise at night, you wake with a start. As soon as you identify what is making the noise you go ok, no biggie it’s the fridge turning on, neighbour leaving early for work or whatever and you go straight back to sleep. Someone jumps out at you as a prank, you are momentarily frightened and then you both laugh.

What is the worst thing that can happen if you put yourself out there and someone laughs at you or says nasty things?

Make it About Them

If you could help someone you would – right.

Most help would but when it comes to putting ourselves out there so we can help people most of us shy away. What is the difference, what stops us and why won’t we do it?

That question is something you will have to answer for yourself.

Here are a few tips that might help.

  • Make it about them, not you. How can you serve your people?
  • Fear – what are you making it mean? False Evidence Appearing Real
  • What is the worst that can really happen?

Acknowledge and Use it For Good

Trying to suppress your fear, nerves and negative thoughts is the worst thing you can do. You have them, acknowledge them and now how can you harness that energy for good?

What will happen if you just try, really what will happen?

Can you relabel it.

I used to say I was a terrible flyer.

And of course, I was.

The day after one particular bad flight I was waiting for a connecting flight. It was delayed. A lady was walking around getting really annoyed. She came up and spoke to me. Ranting and complaining.

“Oh and what about you”, she said.

Not wanting to give her any more ammo I just calmly said, “I am fine, I always fly well”.

Wow where did that come from.

On that flight I decided that I would fly well.

Guess what I did.

I don’t think I have a bad flight since.

I am going to fly next week for the first time in years. I will try to remember to let you know how I go. Actually, I won’t need to will I? I fly well every time.

What can you relabel?

Do You Believe in Yourself?

You can do this, whatever you put your mind to. Start by believing in yourself.

Act as if.

I don’t like ‘fake it til you make it.’

If you act as if what would you change.

If you were already (insert the blank), rich, successful, had more clients, had a bigger/smaller business; how would you behave differently. What of those things can you do now?

What If You Could, You Can

Think about 1 or 2 things that you can change, action or do to get you closer to your goal.

If you don’t act then your goals are only dreams.
