What if I am the person that… That is what we are going to be talking about today.
- What if I am the person that does hard things?
- What if I am the person that keeps promises even to myself, even those little quiet ones?
- The ones I keep moving around in my diary?
What if I am the person that says no when it has to be a no, and keeps it at no, and it does not end up with a little “s” at the end? What if I am the person that actually says no? And what if I do all of this when no one is watching? What would that mean for your business if you did not just blindly follow along because it is the latest marketing trend, or it is something somebody said you should do?
What if you stopped, you paused, and you thought about it? Would that change your business? That is a great topic.
Do What Feels Right
Some coaches are not hesitant to become one because they have been told to use their own stories. While others are comfortable with that, some are not. These are those people that don’t want to relive everything they when they have spent a lot of time forgetting it. You may share the same story with other people but it doesn’t mean you have to help the same sort of people.
Years ago, people said that I should be helping mums because I was a mum. That is a great alignment, but it was not what I wanted to do. I spent a lot of years trying to be a “serious” business before Covid, when working from home was not considered cool. That was not my path. So what are you doing and following along with just because somebody else said you should?
What if you stopped, paused, and did a pros and cons list about what you actually want to do with your coaching business? Who lights you up? Who excites you? Who are the people you really want to help?
Share What You Want to Share
Time management, boundaries, and skills like these cross stages and generations. It does not mean you need to be your exact ideal client. The wonderful thing about coaching is that you do not have to have all the answers. You just need to ask powerful questions and share stories that help people connect with you and see themselves in your message.
When moving niches, it can help to bring stories from your old niche and pull out the parts that apply to your new one. Of course, you need to keep integrity, but sometimes changing names or adjusting situations can help build your confidence. At other times, you might share part of your own story—just not all of it.
This is your story. You can weave it the way you want. You do not even need to say it is your story. You can also use third-party stories but just be clear that they are not yours. Until you have your own, that is fine too.
Lead With Empathy
Often we hear about coaches who struggle with the very thing they teach: weight-loss coaches who cannot lose weight, mindset coaches with mind drama, time management coaches who are always late. Why not use your tools to create great things for yourself as well? Sometimes experiencing the struggle is what gives you empathy to better coach your clients.
Remember Episode 270: Overcoming the Fear of Rejection. Growth happens when we step out of our comfort zone. Or Episode 287: Finding Clarity in Your Coaching Message. Keeping your word to yourself builds confidence and clarity, which shows up in your business. Episode 243: The Rule of One, reminds us to keep things simple—one audience, one problem, one solution.
Be Accountable
Say no when you need to. Keep your commitments to yourself. Avoid running down rabbit holes or chasing clients out of desperation. That energy will not attract the right clients. Stick to your priorities, stay consistent, and aim for your bullseye client.
When you are accountable to yourself, you show others they can count on you too. Integrity matters, especially when nobody is watching. Yes, it can be challenging, but small steps add up. Accountability partners and coaches can help you stay on track, but it begins with you.
