The Resilience Reset Bouncing Back from Setbacks

Show Notes

Not everything will always going to go as planned. How can you bounce back from that? Well, you must realise that sometimes, even the things that seem like setbacks can have a silver lining too.

How to Bounce Back

So how can you think about bouncing back? There are many ways to do it, and many reasons why we need resilience. It could be difficult coaching clients. It could be things that just are not quite matching up. Sometimes, a particular client is not the right match for you, and you are not the right match for them. Difficult conversations can give us that uncomfortable feeling, and the longer we put them off, the worse they can feel. Whether it is a single conversation or an ongoing client relationship, navigating these situations is an important part of resilience.

Consistent Marketing

Another challenge can be slow periods. Sometimes, we spend all our time coaching and neglect marketing. Then, when client sessions end, there is a dip in new leads. It can be a rollercoaster, with ups and downs, if you do not have a system in place. If you run a membership site or rely on recurring clients, marketing consistently is the key. Pre-scheduling your outreach and content can help you avoid the stress of slow periods.

Self Care Helps

Personal challenges can also test our resilience. A family member getting sick or passing away can take a significant toll. Even in difficult times, we still need to show up and deliver what we have promised. Drawing a line between personal and professional responsibilities can help. It is important to take care of yourself—whether that is through meditation, journaling, or seeking professional support.

Self-care is not selfish. If you do not look after yourself, you will not be able to serve your clients, support your family, or sustain your business. Airlines have it right when they say, “Put on your oxygen mask first.”

Be Resilient

What are the things that can help you feel more resilient? Do you have an exercise routine? Do you enjoy spending time in nature? Maybe yoga or Pilates helps. I love going to the beach. It always amazes me how much it changes—even from one day to the next. Connecting with nature helps reset my mindset.

I had an incredible 2024, but I also had some major challenges. We might have an incredible 2024 but it also comes with some major challenges. Being resilient can help you push though during this time. Brooke Castillo from The Life Coach School talks about the “50/50” concept—sometimes life feels 70/30 or even 90/10, but over time, it balances out. We do not want to be happy all the time, but we certainly do not want to be stuck in struggle either.

Seek Help When Necessary

If you are going through a tough time, please seek support. As coaches, we know self awareness is key. If you need professional help, do not hesitate to reach out. If you had a physical injury, you would see a doctor—mental and emotional challenges deserve the same attention. It is not a sign of weakness—it is a sign of strength.

One of my personal challenges was failing my ACC coaching exam last year. I missed the passing score by 1.6%. It was tough. I had to decide whether to try again, and for a while, I considered giving up. Eventually, I realized I had come too far to quit. I changed my approach, studied differently, and passed the exam the next time.

From this experience, you will realise that you can do hard things. You just have to adjust your mindset, practice better timing strategies and study new techniques. Sometimes, resilience is about learning and adapting. You are either winning or learning.

What can you take from past successes to help you move forward? Sometimes, strategies from one area of life can be applied to another. In marketing, we often look at what works in different industries and apply it in new ways. You can do the same with your resilience strategies.

Remember, not every opportunity is the right fit. If someone says no, it does not mean your offer is wrong but it might just not be the right audience. Make sure you are targeting the right people with your messaging.

Next week, we have an exciting episode all about AI. If you have been resisting AI, this could be a resilience moment for you too. I was not an early adopter in some areas, but I have found AI to be an amazing tool.
