Show Notes
What if one thought could change your success? What if one thought is holding you back? It actually could be. And guess what? You have the power to change it. That is what we are going to discuss today.
Your Thoughts Shape Your Reality
It is amazing what thoughts do, is it not? Those sneaky little thoughts that get hidden away. Sometimes we think we are just reporting the news. We think it is just the way it is and we have no control. But in reality, we have a lot more control than we think.
I worked with Anna. She was a great coach, had been coaching for years. She thought she had to do social media to build a thriving business. She hated it. The thought of turning on the video or posting every day – even once a year – almost paralysed her. That one thought stopped her from building the business she wanted.
In actual fact, Anna had a huge database and a loyal email list of people who knew her through coaching and loved her. She had been sending the occasional message, but nothing consistent. So we wrote two well worded emails. She named her program and ended up with a waiting list.
One thought had held her back for months. A single conversation with a coach helped her shift that thinking, and suddenly she was filling programs with ease.
So what is your one thought? That is the challenge – finding the thought that needs to shift.
Own Your Offer
The next thing is belief in your product. What are you selling? A coaching package? One-on-one sessions? It does not matter, what matters is that you believe in it. You do not need to wait for perfection. That will never come. But you do need some belief. I have a few past episodes on finding belief, including one on Borrowed Belief – go check it out here: SBT Episode 310: Borrowing Belief Until You Build Your Own
Because if you cannot believe in your own product, it will be very difficult to get someone else to believe in it.
I call it the belief triad:
Belief in your product.
Belief in yourself.
Belief in your client’s ability to succeed.
You need all three. If you do not believe in your offer, you will struggle to believe in yourself and that will show, whether it is in your marketing, sales calls, or even in your sessions.
And if you need to borrow belief for now, I give you permission. You can do this.
Start. Even if it is imperfect. Take action.
Embrace the Power of ‘No’
Get clear about the one person you help. Know what they are struggling with. Know how your offer helps them. I think it was SBT Episode 270: Overcoming the Fear of Rejection. That fear is real, especially when you are the product.
When someone chooses another coach, it can feel personal. But it usually is not. Think about when you pick an apple at the supermarket. You are not judging the other apples but just choosing what suits you.
Yet when we are the apple, we take it personally. There will be no’s. And there should be. If no one is saying no, your price might be too low or something else is not working.

Implement the Right Strategy
We get stuck trying to follow perfect plans, doing what gurus say, and comparing ourselves. That often leads to paralysis. Like Penny, who thought she had to do social media. Social is great, and it can be free but if it is stopping you, try something else. There is networking, JV partners, ambassador programs. You do not have to do it one way.
If you are using ads, make sure your systems are ready. Ads amplify so they will amplify any gaps or broken links too. Make sure your process is solid.
Be Specific
Know what outcome you are promising. If you say “I help everyone with everything,” people will struggle to know if you are right for them. Even if you are a generalist coach, draw a line in the sand. Have a container. It might be location based. It might be a theme like leadership or weight loss but be specific.
Ask and Listen
Trust yourself. You know more than you think. You have other experience you can draw on. And remember that coaching is not about giving answers. It is about asking powerful questions. Most of the time, people just need to be heard.
Listen. Truly listen. You might be the only one listening to them this week. That is the power of coaching.
SBT Episode 272: Why Some People Succeed, is a good one too. It looks at transformation and what makes it happen.
Trust your clients. Some will never finish your program – and that is okay. Some may not even start. Others will be the best clients you have ever had. Some will do all the work and still not get it. Others will do very little – and that one thought will be enough to change everything.
Your job is to help them trust themselves. Trust your own skills too.
Practice Unlocks Success
Sometimes we need to turn coaching on ourselves. Do a brain dump. Look at your sneaky thoughts. It might be just one small thing holding you back. What if you are the person who does the thing?
What if you decide today, right now, that you are the person with a thriving business, with a strong pipeline, with a line of clients who want to work with you? Without changing a thing. Just you, showing up as you.
Sometimes, the only thing standing between you and success is the willingness to practise. We can do all the theory in the world. But if we do not practise, it is not enough.
