Win Your Day

Show Notes

In this crazy world of uncertainty, sometimes just winning your day can be enough to get you through.

Inspiring Others

Recently, I started a 30 day challenge. I had to pick 5 things to do and do them every day. The 5 things where:

  1. Something to move your business forward
  2. Something physical or exercise related
  3. Something monotonous
  4. Something to improve your brain
  5. Commit to drinking a designated amount of water each day

We all get to pick our tasks and agree to commit to them. If you didn’t do it each day, you have to start again at 1.

My monotonous thing was to post a photo of my 5 ticks, the completed tasks into a Facebook group. I found that if I didn’t have external accountability I didn’t complete my task. In fact, I had to start the challenge 3 times even once at day 15.

As the group dropped off many people didn’t restart and only 1 other person was posting. I get a bit self-conscious and wished I didn’t have to post mine but I knew if I didn’t I would then have to restart again. No, that wasn’t going to happen.

So I continue day after day. The other lady reached 30 days and then upped her 5 things and continued onto 60 days. We chatted a bit.

She said that by me posting my photo every day kept her motivated to continue and yes, she reached 60 days. I also reached my 30 days.

I am not on my 2nd attempt and the second 30 days (Day 3 at time of recording) and yes, I will succeed.

The reason I tell you this is because you never know who you are inspiring. Often I have heard people say if you are not getting lots of likes and interaction on your social posts to stop.

I disagree often people are watching from afar and although they may not react and are seeing your stuff. Obviously do more of what is popular if it serves your business. However, don’t stop the other posts if they serve you or your customer or potential customer.

If they don’t serve you then why did you put them there in the first place? Ask yourself that before posting any content. Entertainment is a valid way to serve but not all the time.

Win Your Day

Navy Seal Admiral William H. McRaven has a wonderful motivational speech he gave to Texas Graduation in 2014. In this speech, the Admiral explained why the Navy Seal training is as it is and the lessons he learnt from it, that have served him ever since.

McRaven’s most famous quote is

“Make your Bed – Little Things That Can Change Your Life and Maybe The World”

Which is now also a book.

By making your bed every day, you have accomplished your first and last task of the day right there. No matter how your day goes from then on you have done that first tasks and you will have a nice bed to come back to.

There is also a bigger meaning. Start each day with a simple task that you can complete right away. You have already stated to win your day.

Start Each Day with Simple Tasks

McRaven has a lot to say in his speech and it went viral because it is also the little things that make a difference. Please take the time to go and listen to it and understand the full meaning of it.

Navy Seal Admiral William H. McRaven [MOTIVATIONAL SPEECH]

Here are some key takeaways:

-Make your speeches memorable or short
-Start each day with a simple task completed
-Do the little things right now, so you can do the big things right later
-If you want to change the world, start off by making your bed
-You can’t change the world alone, you will need some help
-Success comes from friends, colleagues, the goodwill of strangers, and a strong person to guide you
-If you want to change the world, measure a person by the size of their heart, not by the size of their flippers
-Sometimes no matter how well you perform, you still end up as a ‘sugar cookie’
-Keep moving forward, even through setbacks
-You will fail. Don’t be afraid of it
-Sometimes you have to take a risk to get ahead
-If you truly want to change the world, don’t back down when you are scared
-Be your very best, even in the darkest moments
-One person can change the world by giving hope
-Start singing when you are up to your neck in mud
-Respect everyone
-Life is not fair and you will fail often
-Take some risks and never give up
-If you do the right thing, it will improve life for generations to come
