I have a question for you. Why don’t you have a coach? Now, before you run off to all the base excuses, stop. Take a breath and think about it. So you are a coach, so you know the value of coaching. You know about goal setting. You know about accountability. You know all the things that you do as a coach and sometimes a lot more. So why don’t you personally have a coach?
Now you’re going to have lots of thoughts running through your head, and then probably the same thoughts that your clients give you. It’s too expensive. I can coach myself. I don’t need a coach. Why would I need coach? I don’t want a power coach and all those other things. And what other excuses and objections do you get when you are on a consult or from your marketing? The people coming to you and saying, I really want your help, but I don’t want to pay or I can’t pay or, you know, all those excuses.
Different Types of Coaches
So what is running through your head about why you don’t have a coach? So whether you want to talk about walking the talk, being a product of your product or any those sorts of things. If you think of any athlete, sports person, they all have coaches and generally multiple coaches, not just one coach, but they’ll have a strength coach. They’ll have a mindset coach. They might have a nutrition coach. They might have a particular technique coach. They have lots of different coaches. And you as a coach should have lots of different coaches over your coaching career too. Sometimes you can have a one on one coach. Sometimes you can be in a great program. Other times you can have more of a mentor type coach where you’re listening and getting some of that information.
Why Pay For A Coach?
But why don’t you have a coach? That is the question. There’s lots of different ways to have coaches, and some of them are cheaper than others. But if you’re expecting people to pay you as a coach, then why aren’t you paying somebody to coach you and to look inside your brain and to help you unravel all those thoughts, and you know what it’s like be standing so close to the forest that you can’t see the leaves for the trees. So self-coaching is wonderful and it’s great to do between coaching sessions. But if you don’t have a coach, how are you going to untangle all of those things?
And sometimes it’s just great to be able to verbalize things and have somebody who’s going to listen non-judgmental and point out some of those things that you will not see. So why is it too expensive? Well, if it really is a down to a cost thing, is that a different conversation? Are you not getting enough clients yourself, or are you not charging enough? Particularly in the wellness space. As coaches, we want to help as many people as possible. And one of the best ways that we can do that is actually charge what we’re worth. And then with that money you can use to be pro bono or give back or any of the other things you want to do. But if you’re not charging properly and that’s the reason that you don’t have a coach, well, then that’s probably the reason that you need a coach.
Get a Free Coaching
If you like to get a coach but don’t have the money, you can look at the coaching school that you went to. Most coaching schools have some sort of reciprocal track coaching where you coach somebody and they coach somebody else, and there’s no actual money changed hands. There’s quite a few Facebook sites that do design. Some of them are triads. So you coach somebody somebody that you coach somebody, the person that you are coaching, coaches somebody else, and then they coach you. And sometimes it’s a bigger than a three. So there’s lots of ways that you can be coached, but you really need to think about why you are not a product of your product while you are not walking your talk. And why you don’t have a coach.
For Personal Development
So now that you’ve got over some of those B.S. excuses, what is the things that you need a coach for? Well, it could be personal development. And depending on whether you’re an ICF coach, one of the things is growing as a coach. So you actually need to copy your professional development. It could be helping you to understand some of those tools and techniques that you’ve actually qualified in. Sometimes you need extra coaching on that to work out the intricacies of that. It could be that you need a money coach, and particularly if you’re saying, I can’t afford a coach, maybe that’s an area you need to look into it. It could be here. You’ve got all sorts of other things, and it could be that you’re trying to decide whether to go full time in your coaching and leave your full-time job and make coaching your full-time gig.
Coaches Can Help in Several Reasons
So there’s lots of different reasons why you would have a coach and sometimes multiple coaches. Do I have a coach? Absolutely. I actually have several coaches. I have one on one coaches, and then I’m in a couple of group programs as well for different reasons, and they do different things. So one of them I’m looking at is my podcasting. So I have a podcast coach. I didn’t even know there was one until I came across and found out some information I want. Yes, that’s actually where I need to get my podcast to the next level. I also have coaches where I work on my mindset because that’s really important. Making sure that you are looking after you and particularly if you’re doing some of that really heavy type coaching. So it could be trauma coaching or deep work with relationships, that sort of thing. You need to make sure you look after you. So make sure that you do have a coach and make sure that you are looking after yourself. Because if you’re not, then who’s going to be able to serve your clients, and who is going to be able to set a powerful example of the fact that you have a coach? So making sure that you do identify some of those pain points that you’re having and get somebody to help you with that, making sure that you do have a coach and sometimes it’s a personality thing.
Change Your Coach
So if you’ve had a coach before and they haven’t worked, then maybe they just weren’t. What, the coach for you. You might have a coach at the moment that you’re not as comfortable with. You might have outgrown that coach. So quite often it’s not a case of having one coach. And that’s going to be your coach forever. That’s why quite often coaches have programs that step it out. So you might start at one level and then move into others. You might decide that that first level was great and now you need somebody else. You might decide that it does not a value match.
There’s lots of reasons to change coaches, but it’s really important that you do have a coach. So please think about it. Get some free coaching if necessary, but really think about paying for a coach and paying well for coach. Because if you want to be paid well and you should be so that you can do all those things. You might decide that you’re going to give your time to a women’s shelter or something like that, and do a day there that you can’t afford to do that if you’re not being paid well. So make sure that you are being paid well so that you can pay a coach well, and then that can help you expand your business as well.
