Conquering the Fear of Public Speaking

Just because you struggle to say things in a public sphere, doesn’t mean that what you have to say doesn’t have value. Your ideas and opinions have merit and conquering your fear of public speaking can not only benefit you but the people around you as well. Focusing on your audience and tuning into the external can help you step away from your internal worries. Acknowledge the presence of the room and lean into it.

Awareness of the Audience

Look up at the room and take it all in. Don’t focus on one spot for too long, but let your peripheral vision expand as you take in the audience and make them a part of the presentation. Actively engaging with the people you are speaking to will keep both them and you grounded in the conversation.

Relieving the Pressure of Public Speaking

When entering a situation as a public speaker, you may feel that there is a lot of pressure on you to know everything. While you are there to share your knowledge and/or engage with the audience, you don’t have to be an expert in every single aspect, and you can use the audience’s knowledge to engage with them! Asking questions will enhance your performance, as it keeps their focus on you.
