Show Notes
Do you need a funnel? You do not. It is amazing how we listen to all these different marketing voices and think we need all this tech. As coaches, that is often where we get caught up, trying to have the perfect tech setup. You do not need a funnel.
Funnels are great, yes. Most coaches do not start with funnels until they have made one hundred thousand dollars or more. Funnels amplify. They work well when you have your message dialled in, your proven process sorted, and a clear direction. Until then, they just get you stuck. Stuck in the tech. Stuck in the learning. Stuck not actually talking to people.
You Don’t Need all The Tech
All those tools are amazing. They will not get you clients by themselves. Often, they will not get you in front of the right people either, especially websites. You cannot just put up a website and hope people come. It does not work like that. There is a lot of other things that have to happen around a website to get you in front of people.
But you can go out and talk to people. You can go to an in person or online networking event and talk to one person and be the right person for them, the right coach, and get a client right there and then.
It is amazing what we get stuck in. We get stuck in the learning. We think we have to have everything perfect. We wait for that extra qualification. We do not actually go and talk to our potential clients. And after a few months, we wonder why we still have not got that amazing business we always dreamed of. Getting stuck in learning mode, thinking you need a funnel, is not going to help you at all.
Establish Clarity
Who is it that you want to help and how can you help them? Yes, you can do general coaching and that is amazing, but you still have to know how you are going to help and who you are going to help. You cannot help everybody. Trying to market to everyone is expensive and frustrating. That is another reason why a funnel is not helpful in the beginning. You are going to spend a lot of money and not get the results you are hoping for.
Be Confident
You need to be confident about what you are offering. Sometimes it is a case of acting as if and borrowing that confidence. A great way to get confidence is to get some clients. If you are struggling to get paid clients, maybe take one or two free or low ticket clients. Start practicing. Build up your confidence.
If you do not think you are a great coach, others will not either. They will not think you are the right one for them. We have all met people at networking events and something feels off. It is not quite authentic. They do not believe what they are saying and you pick up on that. Politicians do it all the time. They try to sell something they do not believe in and it shows. If you are not being authentically you, it is very difficult to connect. What confidence can you bring from your past job? From your life? Even if you have been a stay-at-home parent, you bring time management, scheduling, leadership and many other skills. Build on that. Start with one thought. Build on that confidence because if you are not confident in your coaching ability, no one else will be.
Transform Your Mindset
If you find sneaky little thoughts getting in the way, maybe you need help with mindset. I spoke with a client recently who felt she needed to hold something back. She could not give everything away. That is not how we coach. That is not how we show up.
If you carry those thoughts into your marketing, people will feel it. They do not know what it is, but they know something is not right.
Those sneaky thoughts can be powerful and not in a good way. You often cannot see your own thoughts clearly. That is why you need a coach. I am here if you would like to speak with me. We really do need to move forward. Do not let sneaky thoughts hold you back.
Connect With People
You need to have conversations. You are never going to get clients hiding behind your computer. Yes, some coaches do not do calls anymore, but they all started with conversations. Even the big names. They all did sales calls, discovery calls, chats. So you need to start having conversations. That builds confidence too. You learn what lands and what does not. What works for you as a coach and what works for your audience.
Talking only with friends and family is not enough. They are not your ideal client and they might not even understand what you do. But it is a place to practice. Going somewhere new, introducing yourself as a coach, helps build that confidence.
If you cannot get out in person, go online. Online networking groups are everywhere. If you are really stuck, go live on Facebook or Instagram. Just start. Tell people what you do, how you do it. Be short and clear. Do not list every module or step. Just say you are a business coach who helps coaches create thriving businesses. Then give a couple of helpful tips.
The Power of Reaching Out
The magic of outreach really can be the thing you are missing. Reach out to people. Follow up. Respond to DMs. If you are on Instagram or LinkedIn, be consistent. Not ten posts in one week then disappear for a month. Scheduling helps. Be regular. Post once a week if that is what you can manage. Just be consistent.
Voice notes are great too. When you connect with someone new, send a quick voice message. Be friendly, be yourself, be professional. Do not send a long story. Just speak as you would to a friend.
Voice adds connection. If you use video, even better. Some people will love your energy and voice. Some will not. That is perfect. You want to work with people who resonate with you. Share your stories. How you help. What you have done for clients. Respect privacy, of course, but be real. Stories connect.

But I Need a Funnel
Funnels, websites, and email automation are brilliant tools. They save time. But only when you already have the foundations. Otherwise, you are just adding complexity to confusion.
Instead, be human. Be a leader. Be kind. Be clear. Ask real questions. Add value. Help one person today. Then help two. Then help three. It is a numbers game. You need to speak to more than one person to get a client.
