Show Notes
Do you ever feel like you are annoying your audience? Do you ever think, oh, I have to pause, I do not want to send out that social media post, or I do not want to email my list? We often have a love hate relationship with social media, do we not? We either think that we are going to be ignored or we do not want to annoy our audience.
Filtering Out
The same with email. We might resist sending out that value post because we just do not want to annoy them. And when it comes to sales, well, are we going to send out that offer because we are worried about annoying them? You cannot worry about that because if people are annoyed at you, they will unsubscribe. They will stop looking at your feed.
In particular with email. Email is an amazing way to contact your people and to add value because if they are not interested, they will either not open it or they will unsubscribe, which is a great thing. When they unsubscribe you get a clean list. You can see who is actually liking your content and opening it and reading it, and you can see what resonates with your audience so that you can send more of what they are interested in and potentially reword some of the things that they are not.
Do What You Have To Do
I was listening to a really interesting podcast this week by James Franco, and he was talking about how opening rates are going through the roof. You would think that is amazing. Unfortunately, not so much because it is the bots. It is not actually people getting the information at all. That is another reason why you are probably not going to annoy your audience, because some of them are not even going to read it. The bots are reading it. So you need to make sure that your information is on point, that you are adding value, and that you are helping your audience so they look out for it. Consistency is the key to making sure you are doing it regularly. If you are doing a regular newsletter on a Thursday, then it needs to come out on a Thursday.
Just like this podcast. Make sure that you are consistent and set up those touchpoints with your customers because they are there, they are waiting for you. They are on your list. We are so worried about annoying them that we are not using our channels. We are not letting our customers know that we have a webinar coming up, or that we have free spots in our one on one, because an amazing client has just finished up because she did exactly what she needed to do.
Be Consistent
Consistency builds trust, does it not?
If you are expecting a podcast every Thursday, or an email every Thursday, you might start to look out for it. You might go, oh, I did not get that. The first week it might be a surprise. After the third or fourth week, people get busy.
They have completely forgotten about you. You need to make sure that you are getting those touchpoints. They used to say that if you had an attention span of a goldfish, three seconds, it was an insult. These days, if you have an attention span of a goldfish, you are probably one of the five percenters, maybe even the one percenters, because attention spans have become so short.
How many tabs have you got open on your computer? How many of those things do you actually remember what you were doing before you got sidetracked doing something else? Our attention spans are so short these days. If you are not keeping up consistency, if you are not getting in front of your people, they just will not see you. You are not disrupting them. Quite often you are reminding them.
Remind Them
It is important that they know you are there, they are able to find you and that they know you are their person. Make sure that you are consistently getting out there and particularly using your email, because it is becoming one of those things again where the old is new and the new is old. There is so much noise on socials and people are just not seeing content to the degree that they used to.
Go back to email. Have amazing subject lines. You can even do preheader subject lines as well. That gives you extra opportunities for people who have the preview on. Get out there. Let people know that you are a coach. Let them know your amazing work, and start to get those systems running so that you can even out those feasts and famines.
